Teen among 4 people injured in Côte-des-Neiges stabbing suspect in police custody
Three victims of a stabbing, including a teen, are expected to recover after surviving life-threatening injuries.
A 39-year-old woman, a 17-year-old girl and a 44-year-old man were all stabbed at around 3 p.m. Sunday on Goyer Street near Darlington Street in Côte-des-Neiges.
Police arrested a 53-year-old man in connection with the incident. He was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Montreal police said.
According to Véronique Comtois, a spokesperson for the SPVM, two of the people involved in the stabbing are in a relationship and the other two knew them well.
“We had confirmation that there is a conjugal context, which means that for us, it’s a confirmation that it’s a targeted event,” Comtois said.
Comtois said the violent encounter occurred both indoors and outdoors. Officers are still investigating to determine the causes and circumstances of the stabbing.
“We’re really trying to understand how it happened,” she said.
‘This is unacceptable’
Lionel Perez, city councillor in the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough, called the incident unacceptable.
“I am truly without words about the vicious stabbings in Côte-des-Neiges in plain daylight earlier today,” he said.
“Not a day goes by without another act of violence being reported in Montreal. This is unacceptable and the situation is only getting worse.”
